The Kung-fu for Wellness programs at Array Yoga & Kung-fu Academy are a special addition to the offerings available. It’s common to only think of violence when we think of martial arts, and to not know that Tai Chi is part of the Kung-fu family of arts. The Kung-fu classes with Array Yoga & Kung-fu Academy focuses on both the wellness attributes of disciplined practice, and application of the arts in a safe, and fun environment meant for all ages & skill levels.

Neijia is the name for the internal martial arts within the kung-fu family. These styles including Tai Chi ( Tai chi quan ), Xing Yi Quan ( Hsing-I Quan ), and Ba Qua. We focus on the Tai Chi & Xing Yi Quan at our studio ( and we’ll include Ba Qua in the future ), and the forms we focus on are excellent for building memory, strength, coordination, stability, flexibility. These arts are like the yoga of kung-fu with their connections to alignment, acupressure, and awareness.

In the Kung-fu for Wellness classes we focus on Xing Yi Quan, and Tai Chi Quan, and traditional warm ups & downs for kung-fu, Qigong & Neigong, which are actually the godfathers of kung-fu itself. These classes are fun, and form based. Every class you will leave with something new you could add to your daily practice. For the dedicated students, we cover a syllabus of forms every 2 years, allowing regular students the opportunity to take belt test, and work toward being masters of the art themsekves.

Xing Yi Quan is the main focus of the classes. It is based on short, linear, powerful forms. We also incorporate Tai Chi forms which are asymmetrical, and challenge our memory & coordination. The Qigong & Neigong provide the warm ups & warm downs while also teaching us basic skills for the other arts.

Xing Yi Quan includes forms based on elements, and animals, and includes weapon forms.

Tai Chi Quan has longer forms which are performed slower, and more meditative. There are five main family forms. We work on a form from each family one at a time. For the longer Tai Chi forms we currently focus on Chen Old Frame, Sun, and Fire Wheels based on Yang Tai Chi.

All are welcome. Find all the class time & sign up info on the home page. Also check out the Special Events page, as we have workshops & special classes that focus on learning particulars to help advance your practice.

⭐Glenn Brown has been practicing Kung-fu since 1997, and met his teacher, Keith Dwan aka Master Bu Hong, in Louisville in 2000. In 2023 Glenn earned his Master Certificate in Xing Yi Quan, his 4th degree blackbelt, and inherited the Bu family lineage, and the family name, Dwan, from his teacher in a traditional Bai Si tea ceremony. In 2024 he was trained by Keith in the oldest family Tai Chi form, Chen Old Frame, and earned his certificate in the Fire Wheels. He also taught an accredited Kung-fu & Tai Chi Basics class at IUS from 2016 to 2025, and the research for this class adds to the depth of the Kung-fu for Wellness courses.
